UCSB Couples Study: Relationships and Health

 
     
  Couples from the Santa Barbara community (who are married or living together) are invited to participate in a study of close relationships and health. This study is being conducted by Nancy Collins, PhD who is a professor in the psychology department at UCSB. Study components:

Session 1: (1.5 hours)

  • You and your partner will come to the lab to fill out questionnaires about your thoughts and feelings about yourself and your relationship.

Session 2: (2.5 hours)

  • You and your partner will come back to the lab to participate in various activities, such as games, puzzles, or cognitive tasks. Some of these activities will be video-taped.
  • You and your partner will be asked to provide saliva samples to obtain hormone assessments.
  • Cardiovascular responses (blood pressure, heart rate, respiration) for you and your partner will also be monitored.

Compensation:

  • To thank you for your time, each partner will receive $40, for a total of $80 per couple.
  • Couples will also be entered into a lottery for the chance to win a $50 cash prize or one of four $25 gift cards to Amazon
